There's Something So Romstalgic -

- about ports, wouldn't you say?

Especially if they're old ports, ports with history.

This is the port of Veracruz, Mexico. It is the oldest in the country, and somehow, you can tell. It's the place where Hernan Cortes first laid foot on Mexican soil and where more and more people from Europe, mainly Spain, did the same, and where trade has taken place most dominantly on the Gulf coast ever since.

These days it's being modernised into a Super-Port. Already there are rail lines and new motorways being built and whole areas being dredged up and worked upon to create an integrated, multi-modal service to exporters and importers alike.

This is happening throughout Mexico, meaning it appreciates its enviable geographical location - having two very long coastlines means there's real opportunity in improving maritime installations and services.

Infrastructure, is what Mexico is investing in these days.

Good thing, too.

I definitely see the benefits though am not blind to the staggering rate of growth, nor to the off-hand awareness in respect of environmental impact.

Hey Tanya - I wanted to ask you, is narcotráfico really all that bad? Can I bring my little girls to Mexico without fear? Your blog makes it seem so crime-free, but all I read about is horrid killings and decapi.... Can't even finish that word, it is so horrendous... Tell me what you think when you have a chance... Thanks!!
